BO AYARS, our music director, has a lot of great showbiz stories - and he should! He’s worked with Liberace, Elvis, Barbra Streisand, The Rockettes, and a gazillion others. We’ve started an interview series called “Storytime with Bo Ayars” and our Liberace & Liza newsletter recipients get first dibs at watching them. Classical Revolution PDX is going all out by putting a 9’ 6” Fazioli piano (they cost around $250,000!!) in Holocene, one of Portland’s most energetic nightclubs. It will be an evening of over-the-top virtuosic musical acts and will close with our very own Liberace, David Saffert, providing the evening’s final 20 minute set.

Marti Mendenhall is an accomplished jazz vocalist with a flair for cooking. She has combined both of these talents for music and cooking into her own podcast called Marti’s Music Kitchen. Marti interviews musicians from around the country about their musical lives and what they cook. David and Bo were recently interviewed by Marti and the episode will debut this May 16th - the day of Liberace’s 100th birthday! And what recipe did David make? Liberace’s own recipe for Sticky Buns! David, Jillian, and Bo had their triumphant debut at Feinstein’s at the Nikko this past September in San Francisco. A sold out night, a wildly enthusiastic crowd, and a stellar REVIEW from the San Francisco Chronicle.
And we’ve been invited back!
That photo above? David was gifted an actual tux coat of Liberace’s made by costumer Frank Acuña. Frank’s grandson was in the audience that night and presented it to David after the show. Much love to Frank Acuña Jr. for this generous gift!
